He owns about 3 hectares of land in the Bensa region of Sidamo, in the Sentawane Kabele district. They grow a variety called 74518, which was selected as an Anaerobic Process coffee and won a prize. He has been involved in the coffee business for 31 years, and he entered the COE because he wanted to contribute to the development of the coffee industry and the economy. The 74158 variety is one of the CBD (Coffee Berry Borer Disease) tolerant varieties selected by seed at the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in Jimma Zone, Ethiopia. These varieties are not a crossbreeding of multiple varieties, but rather a repeated selection from a specific group of cultivars to enhance resistance. These CBD tolerant varieties have been included in many of the winning lots of the COE in recent years.
